The Indian Youth Congress and the National Students Union of India (NSUI) will protest against Twitter India today over Rahul Gandhi’s Twitter account being “temporarily suspended.”
This occurred a day after Mr. Gandhi’s controversial tweet featuring a photo of him meeting the family of a 9-year-old Dalit girl who died after being reportedly raped in Delhi was deleted from Twitter. The comment had broken Twitter’s guidelines, according to a notice from the social media platform.
A user’s tweet is usually taken down for violating the rules, and they are not permitted to tweet again for 24 hours. In India, it is unlawful to reveal the identity of sexual assault victims or their families, and it may be considered a violation. On Wednesday, Mr. Gandhi tweeted in Hindi a photo of his meeting with the girl’s family: “The tears of the parents can only mean one thing: their daughter, their country’s daughter, deserves justice. And I’m right there with them on their quest for justice.”

On Wednesday, the National Council for the Protection of Children’s Rights (NCPCR) requested the Delhi Police and Twitter to take action against Mr. Gandhi’s post on Twitter with a photo of the girl’s family, claiming it breached the legislation on child sexual assault.
The National Students Union of India (NSUI), the Congress’s student wing, has scheduled a rally outside the Parliament area. At the same time, the Youth Congress will protest outside the Twitter headquarters in Delhi. Congress has also questioned why action was taken against Rahul Gandhi for posting a photograph of the victim’s family on Twitter while the National Commission for Scheduled Castes took a similar picture for which no action was taken.

No action was taken against BJP leaders like Sambit Patra for posting a document he claimed was framed by Congress to target the government over the ongoing farmers’ protests.
