Amitabh Thakur, a former Uttar Pradesh cadre IPS officer who was forced to retire early, has stated that he will run against Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the state assembly elections next year. In a statement released in Lucknow, Nutan Thakur, Amitabh Thakur’s wife, said that he is fighting for his ideals.
“Yogi has conducted many undemocratic, inadequate, oppressive, harassing, discriminatory acts throughout his time as chief minister,” she added. Amitabh would so run from everywhere he comes in the elections against Sri Adityanath.” “It is a battle for values,” she continued, “where he protests against misconduct.” Thakur had to withdraw on 23 March, due to a decision taken in the “public good” by the Union Home Ministry.

Thakur, who would have ended his duty in 2028, was “not judged suitable to be kept for the remainder of his service,” according to an order from the Union Home Ministry. ” Amitabh Thakur shall get early withdrawals with urgent public interest before finishing his tenure,” the ruling noted.
The officer was suspended on July 13, 2015, only days after accusing Mulayam Singh, the patron of the Samajwadi Party, of threatening him. He was also the subject of a vigilance investigation. In April 2016, the Central Administrative Tribunal’s Lucknow Bench stayed his suspension and ordered his reinstatement with full pay with effect from October 11, 2015.
Yogi Adityanath is a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) rather than the Legislative Assembly at the moment (MLA). When the BJP unexpectedly chose him for the northern state’s top post, he served his sixth straight term as a Member of Parliament (MP) from Gorakhpur. There are rumours that he would run for the Ayodhya assembly elections. Thakur had requested the Centre to alter his cadre status in 2017.
