A police complaint has been filed against members of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust and a BJP MLA by Mahant Dharam Das of the Nirvani Akhada, for alleged fraud in the purchase of a government land parcel for the Ram temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.
Members of the trust have been accused of “betraying” people and the devotees of Lord Ram by “committing fraud” while purchasing land for the upcoming temple.
Mahant Dharam Das has demanded that Champat Rai, a member of the trust be sacked with immediate effect and religious leaders in Ayodhya be handed over the responsibility of managing the shrine. The government should run the country and not the temple, he said.

Allegedly, Deep Narayan Upadhyay had purchased 676 sq meter of land in February for approximately Rs. 20 lakh. Later on, the land parcel was sold to the temple trust for Rs. 2.5 crore. Presently, the value of the land is close to Rs. 35 lakhs, the Mahant has alleged.
All members and office bearers of the trust, including Champat Rai, have been named in the complaint.
In July, the Trust had issued a statement claiming that there were no irregularities in the land deals made for the Ram temple.
A similar complaint was filed against the trust earlier as well, according to which, the land was purchased at a higher rate. The Trust members, however, downplayed the allegations and gave a clean chit to the committee constituted to oversee the land purchase.
