Andhra Govt to Distribute Free Sanitary Napkins

The Andhra Pradesh administration, led by Jagan Mohan Reddy, has announced that teenage females studying in government educational institutions would receive free sanitary napkins.  The state administration, according to authorities, is implementing the initiative with the health and hygiene of women and teenage girls in mind. Every month, ten sanitary napkins would be distributed to about 10 lakh teenage females in all state government schools and intermediate colleges as part of this project.

This project also aims to minimise girl students’ absence during menstruation and prioritise their cleanliness and wellness. Officials will give napkins to girl students at over 10,000 schools and institutions across the state every two months. In addition, the government will run special awareness workshops on menstruation and the importance of health and hygiene in collaboration with UNICEF, WASH, and P&G.

According to the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council, about 23% of Indian girls drop out of school owing to a shortage of sanitary napkins and adequate facilities in schools and colleges, such as running water in toilets and disposal facilities.
