Chandrashekhar Azad, the head of the Azad Samaj Party and a Dalit, said on Friday that if the perpetrators of the Lakhimpur Kheri event are not apprehended within seven days, he and his supporters will visit and surround Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence.

He demanded that the prime minister meet with farmers, travel to Lakhimpur Kheri, and meet with the families of slain farmers. “The criminals are free to wander. If the perpetrators are not apprehended within seven days, we will gherao the PM’s residence “At a press conference, Mr. Azad stated.

The Dalit politician compared the Lakhimpur Kheri tragedy to the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, claiming that it will have far-reaching consequences in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

Mr. Azad claimed no law and order in Uttar Pradesh and urged that the Chief Minister step down. He also backed the need for a caste census, claiming that it will assist in determining the percentage of society that is neglected.

On Sunday, eight people were killed in the Lakhimpur Kheri riots. Four of the eight were farmers who were allegedly mowed down by automobiles driven by BJP activists on their way to an event in the area to greet Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya.
