On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will conduct bilateral discussions with Ukraine, Nepal, Israel, Switzerland, Finland, and Malawi at the COP26 Climate Summit in Glasgow. On the second day of his visit to the UK, the PM will also meet Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates.
The PM met with his British counterpart, Boris Johnson, on the sidelines of the COP26 climate meeting in Glasgow. They agreed to step up counter-terrorism efforts and address the need to reign in extremist actions by certain fringe separatist groups. The two presidents also discussed how the ‘Roadmap 2030’ initiatives are being implemented.

PM Modi thanked Johnson for the excellent organisation of COP26 and his leadership in advocating global climate change mitigation and adaptation. Both leaders spoke about regional and global topics like counter-terrorism, the Indo-Pacific, supply chain resilience, and global economic recovery in the aftermath of the Covid catastrophe. He also announced India’s five promises to address climate change, including a bold declaration that the country will reach net zero emissions by 2070.

They were pleased with the progress toward achieving the expanded trade cooperation, which included moves toward the start of free trade agreement discussions. Both presidents also addressed regional and global issues such as Afghanistan, counter-terrorism, the Indo-Pacific, supply chain resilience, and global economic recovery following the Covid disaster. According to the press statement, PM Modi expressed his desire to welcome Prime Minister Johnson to India as soon as possible.
