A ceremony honouring Padma awardees was held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. President Ram Nath Kovind will give the honors. The honourees are Adnan Sami, late vocalist SP Balasubramanian, Karan Johar, Kangana Ranaut, and Ekta Kapoor.
In a ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Monday, President Ram Nath Kovind handed Padma awards to 73 people, including shuttler PV Sindhu, who received the Padma Bhushan, the country’s third-highest civilian honor. Sindhu was awarded the Padma Shri and Khel Ratna in 2015 and 2016, respectively, earned a silver medal in women’s singles badminton at the 2016 Rio Olympics and a bronze in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Sindhu won the BWF World Championships in 2019 as well. “I have a couple of events coming up, and I’m going to give it my all,” Sindhu added. PV Sindhu recently competed in the French Open last month, when she was eliminated in the semi-finals by Sayaka Takahashi of Japan.
Meanwhile, India’s hockey captain Rani Rampal and India’s women’s football star Oinam Bembem Devi won the Padma Shri honor. Mary Kom, a six-time world champion, received the Padma Vibhushan honor. Others nominated for the Padma Shri in 2020 include archer Tarundeep Rai, hockey player MP Ganesh, former India cricketer Zaheer Khan, and shooter Jitu Rai.

Padma awards are presented in three categories: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri, and are announced on the eve of Republic Day every year. The Padma Vibhushan is given for exceptional and distinguished service, the Padma Bhushan for outstanding service, and the Padma Shri for outstanding service in any subject.
