Punjab CM to Hold Meeting with Farm Union Leaders

On November 17 (Wednesday), Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi will meet with a team of 32 Punjab farmer unions for the first time, ahead of scheduled rallies at the Delhi border. “A total of 666 farmers have perished in this protest at morchas,” Buta Singh Burjgill, head of BKU (Dakaunda), stated. Nearly 200 farmers’ family members have received jobs from the Punjab government thus far. As a result, we’ll talk to them about whether all families will receive job letters shortly or whether it’ll be a pick-and-choose policy?”

Previously, the then-CM of Punjab, Capt Amarinder Singh, pledged a Rs 5 lakh compensation and a government job for the families of farmers who died at morcha locations. Farmers will also meet with Channi to address the DAP shortage and paddy procurement. In the morning, farmers will meet with CM. “We will also discuss the compensation granted by the Punjab government for the cotton crop that was devastated owing to pink bollworm infection,” Burjgill remarked. Weather and pink bollworm outbreaks have also harmed the maize production.

We want to ensure that vegetable farmers have access to reliable energy. Many other topics will be discussed with the Punjab chief minister, since farming is facing a slew of challenges as a result of the one-year-long battle against agricultural legislation.” Channi had visited Bathinda villages on September 25 shortly after taking oath to take stock of cotton harvests destroyed by pink bollworm, where he had met with a few farmers. He had shown an interest in visiting the Delhi protest locations of Singhu and Tikri.

“We have requested the union officials to take up the topic of registered medical practitioners (RMP) operating in villages as well,” said Dhana Mal Goyal, president of the Punjab Medical Practitioners Association. We offer them with basic medical care long before they reach hospitals. We had been helping them throughout the morcha, both at the Delhi and Punjab borders. We hope that before the CM, farmers will be recognised for their efforts.”
