Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, used the phrase “abba jaan” as a taunt again on Tuesday, promising harsh punishment against people who foment anger over the Citizenship Amendment Act. His main aim was AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi, who had lately asked that the law be repealed, but many saw the CM’s statement as a reference to the Muslim population as a whole. He referred to the Hyderabad-based politician, whose party is running in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, as a Samajwadi Party agent.
In September, the chief minister stirred a controversy by claiming that meals supplied by the previous state administration went to individuals who said “abba jaan,” an Urdu euphemism for “father.” Adityanath stated in Kanpur on Tuesday that riots used to occur every “third or fourth day” in Uttar Pradesh. “I’d want to issue a warning to the individual who is attempting to provoke sentiments in the name of CAA once more.” “I am requesting those supporters of ‘chacha jaan’ (uncle) and ‘abba jaan’ listen attentively and understand that if attempts are made to vitiate the environment of the state by stirring sentiments, the state government would deal with it harshly,” the chief minister stated.

Adityanath was speaking at a convention of BJP leaders from voting booths, which was also addressed by party president J P Nadda. The CM stated that the government promotes growth rather than patronising mafias. “It’s a government that drives bulldozers on the mafias’ chests,” he remarked, referring to the destruction of criminals’ property.
Following the declaration on the removal of the agro laws, Owaisi urged that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) be repealed as well. Last year, a protracted demonstration against the CAA was held in the national capital’s Shaheen Bagh neighbourhood.

The CAA aims to provide Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi, and Christian migrants from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan who arrived in India on or before December 31, 2014, Indian citizenship. Only BJP workers were on the streets to help people during the Covid outbreak, according to Adityanath, aside from the federal and state governments. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for implementing food-grain-delivery initiatives. He added that since Independence, family (‘pariwarwad’) and caste (‘jatiwad’) politics had harmed the Kanpur region’s social fabric and harmed its progress.
