Damu, Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, said in a media briefing that there is a great demand for hydroxychloroquine globally and the export of the drug to the countries on the first list has been approved. Ravi said, “Many countries have requested for this medicine.
Keeping in mind the availability of domestic stock and adequate buffer stock for its needs, the Group of Ministers (GoM) has decided to export some additional drugs for export purposes. The first batch in the list of countries has been approved and the product has started sending. “I want to emphasize that the domestic need will be the priority of the government,” he said. “
At the same time, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Love Aggarwal said that India has a stock of 3.28 crore tablets of hydroxychloroquine which is more than three times the estimated requirement of 10 million tablets for the country in the coming week. Apart from this, arrangements have been made to supply an additional 2 to 3 crore tablets for future needs.
