Nagaland becomes first state to impose Covid-19 cess on petrol-diesel

New Delhi: Amidst the corona virus epidemic, Nagaland has announced imposition of Covid-19 cess (cess) on petrol and diesel and is the first state to do so. This announcement has been made to overcome the financial crisis arising due to Corona virus.

Nagaland has imposed Covid-19 cess (cess) of Rs 5 on diesel and Rs 6 on petrol and motor spirit, which will be effective from midnight on 28th April.

Recently Assam and Meghalaya announced a tax hike on petrol and diesel to compensate for the loss caused by the lockdown. After the increase in taxes, the prices of petrol and diesel in Assam were increased by about Rs 6 and in Meghalaya by about Rs 2 per liter.
