On Monday, the Supreme Court decided to hear the appeals of 12 MLA BJP members in Maharashtra who had been inactive in the state legislature for one year on charges of inappropriate conduct toward a presiding officer. Lawyer Siddharth Dharmadhikari told a bench led by Chief Justice N V Ramana that the state Assembly’s winter session is about to begin, and that the appeal against the MLAs’ suspension ought to be heard quickly. “All right, we’ll set a date,” the bench, which also included Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli, remarked.

The Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi administration, led by chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, plans to convene the state assembly’s winter session in Mumbai from December 22 to 28. On July 22, the BJP MLAs launched a legal challenge to the Assembly’s decision to suspend these lawmakers for a year. They were removed from the Assembly on July 5 after the state administration accused them of “misbehaving” in the Speaker’s chamber.
Anil Parab, the state Parliamentary Affairs Minister, proposed the suspension resolution, which was approved by voice vote. Devendra Fadnavis, the Leader of the Opposition, called the claim baseless and said Jadhav’s description of the event was “one-sided.” “This is a baseless claim and an effort to lower the number of opposition benches,” Mr Fadnavis said, adding that BJP members had not insulted the presiding officer.

Mr Jadhav, on the other hand, has requested an investigation into allegations that several Shiv Sena members, including himself, made derogatory remarks, and has stated that if the allegations are found to be genuine, he is willing to face whatever punishment. “I’m having a bad day today. Angry remarks were hurled at me. Some claim I made derogatory remarks. Allow for an investigation after reviewing the CCTV video. I am prepared to accept any punishment if I have used any wrong language “Mr. Jadhav has stated previously.
