Manish Maheshwari, the former head of Twitter India, has left the firm to focus on an ed-tech startup. “We will begin by providing employment training through a virtual immersion platform called #Metaversity,” Maheshwari explained. Maheshwari emphasised in a series of tweets how COVID-19 has profoundly altered not just the abilities required to succeed in the new economy, but also how those skills are imparted and the role technology – notably the metaverse – may play. According to a former Twitter manager, Metaversity is a competition. It is especially important for women in developing economies to balance their place.

“As we create the team and gather the money to realise this #Metaversity vision, I look forward to your support,” he concluded. He’s worked for companies like Flipkart and P&G, to name a few. Maheshwari was announced as a new Senior Director (Revenue Strategy and Operations) at Twitter in August, with a focus on new markets. It has not given any explanation for the abrupt change.

The Indian government confronted Twitter earlier this year, despite repeated reminders of deliberate rebellion and breach of IT rules. Twitter has also been chastised for taking different steps against high-profile users’ posts and accounts. In June, a FIR was submitted to Maheshwari et al. In connection with an investigation into a viral video suspected of hate crime.
