Flights get cancelled and delayed in Chandigarh due to fog

Fog forced the cancellation of three flights and the delay of two more at Chandigarh International Airport on Tuesday morning.

The Indigo flight to Mumbai set to depart at 6.15 a.m., the Go First flight to Mumbai set to depart at 8 a.m., and the Go First Airlines flight to Ahmedabad set to depart at 10.15 a.m. were all cancelled due to low visibility.

The Indigo flight to Delhi, scheduled to depart at 6.45 a.m., was 20 minutes late, while the Go First flight to Srinagar, scheduled to depart at 11.15 a.m., was 35 minutes late.

After a weekend of rain, cloud cover gave way to dense fog, resulting in a dip in the temperature in the morning.

“Earlier, the rains and winds had prohibited fog from building in the city,” an official with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday. However, severe fog, with visibility as low as 200 metres, is forecast in the next days. Clear skies at night are also likely to cause a dip in temperature of up to five degrees.”

The highest temperature will be around 20°C and the minimum will be around 7-9°Celsius for the next three days.
