On Tuesday, the Congress targeted the BJP over a rumoured video tape of Union minister Sanjeev Baliyan making anti-Brahmin statements. The words spoken in the video, which has gone viral, demonstrate the BJP’s anti-Brahmin, anti-Dalit worldview, according to Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate.

She further said that in the past, BJP leaders made casteist statements towards Dalits and Other Backward Classes (OBCs). “The state of Uttar Pradesh, the federal government, and the BJP leadership should all apologise for the union minister’s remark,” she said.

The BJP announced the names of eight more candidates, two of them are women: Gudiya Katheriya from Auraiya and Poonam Sankhwar from Rasulabad in Kanpur Dehat. Sanjeev Kumar Diwakar was elected from Jalesar while Veerendra Verma was elected from Marhara in Etah district. Mamtesh Shakya of Patiyali and Hari Om Verma of Amanpur have been named (both in Kasganj district). Priyaranjan Ashu Diwakar will be the party’s candidate for the Kishani seat in Mainpuri district.
