- Sheikh was home tutored till the age of five in Arabic and Islamic studies, in 1955 he officially started his schooling in Al Ahmedia School. He changed his school to Al Shaab School at the age of ten and then he went to Dubai Secondary School at the age of 12. He went to the United Kingdom to attend the Bell Educational Trust’s English language school with his cousin Mohammed bin Khalifa al Maktoum in 1966. - Sheikh’s family consists of his six wives and thirty children. His first wife was his first cousin Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma al Maktoum, in 1979. She is the mother of the crown prince of Dubai, Hamdan bin Mohammed al Maktoum and she is the first lady of Dubai. His sixth wife was Sheikha Haya bint Hussein, she is the daughter of the Hussein of Jordan the king, and is the half-sister of Abdullah II of Jordan. Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum’s first son died of a cardiac arrest in 2015, Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed. The emirate’s net worth is around $4 billion.
- He was appointed as the defense minister of Dubai in 197 after Dubai gained independence from the United Kingdom. He was immensely in his father’s plan of diversifying the economy to consolidate the dwindling oil reserves of Dubai. After his father’s death in 1990 his elder brother took over the empire as the successor.
- Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum became the crown prince of Dubai and was handed over the task of running the country by his elder brother in 1995. He became the prime minister and the vice president of UAE and the emirate of Dubai after his brother’s death in 2006.
- He has been surrounded by a couple of controversies involving the royal family of Dubai , regarding the abduction of his daughter Sheikha Latifa and his sixth wife Sheikha Haya , who accused him of abuse and exploitation in 2018.
