Indian Agricultural Research Institute launches campus in Assam

A new Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) has been established in Assam by the Union Minister of Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar.

In the virtual inauguration held, Tomar said that IARI, Assam will be named after Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya.

The institute has been built to promote the development of agricultural education and research in the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, and Sikkim, along with Assam.

The idea is to ensure that the agricultural sector remains strong and is able to meet the upcoming challenges that will come with changes in the climate and water shortage in the nearby future.

The minister focused on how important are crops that are grown locally and how it can benefit the farmers’ income and work opportunities.

IARI is recognized for being the “Green Revolution” and to support the development of science-based technologies and quality human resources.
