NCPCR summons CBSE officials for social media tie-ups

The apex child rights body National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has criticized officials from the CBSE.

This is because CBSE had tied up with social media platforms for organizing online classes using augmented reality.

Although online lectures are the need of the hour due to the pandemic, the NCPCR is of the view that allowing children to use social media for e-learning is not appropriate as they are not safe mediums.

In the letter, the officials from the Central Board of Secondary Education have been told to attend a meeting with the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) on November 9.

The meeting will have discussions between both the institutions and CBSE will also get a chance to explain their decision of using social media platforms for e-classes.

For the unaware, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Facebook have collaborated to start courses on “digital safety and online well-being” and “Augmented Reality” for students and educators.
