Marketing is all about generating and converting leads. Marketing attains its objectives only when the lead generation process and the campaign are successful. It is as simple as you say that in order to get more business, you need to get more customers and you will get more customers only if you contact the potential or likely people who can be converted as your company’s customers.

Different businesses have varied ways of generating leads that are based on the cost of resources used to get the leads. Some companies believe in organizing events for generating leads while some think that online campaigns of marketing can help them get in touch with leads.

The lead generation process in marketing is the ability to get access to the people who can become interested in your company’s product or service or brand. For example, if you run a coaching institute that plans to launch new batches of coaching for a degree program. You cannot go out there directly to colleges to promote yourself to get new admissions. But you can play a smart tactic by saying that you would like to offer coaching sessions for free for the students who are in their degree programs. You can cap the free sessions and charge for the remaining sessions that may involve giving important exam questions or preparing them to appear for college or university exams.

This tactic may work out well if you know when to run these free sessions and how to attract college students to your educational services. Now being willing to attend a free session, you will get enrollments that can record the contact details of the students when they come to enquire in person or by calling. Once the contact details have been recorded in the database, you can even approach them at a later stage when you launch the new admission batches for various courses. 

Your leads are the potential students who will appear in the free sessions. But even if 10% of the students have liked your program of free sessions, they are likely to refer to the paid sessions with a discount on their fees. So, one student getting awareness about your educational program can get your 5 of his interested friends if you know how to convert that one student’s lead well. This is about lead generation in marketing wherein you approach a lead in a particular group that can get you the group for you to sell your product or service.

If direct lead generation appears to be a costly and time-consuming affair for you, you can simply go for partnerships and tie-ups with institutions and companies that deal with database management. It is easier to partner with college festivals and events and get the database of the attendees who may or may not be interested in your product or service. The partnership can be barter deals or it can be based on a fixed cost that may or may not give you assured returns on the leads present in the database.
