Every year on March 15th, World Consumer Rights Day brings attention to the rights and needs of consumers around the world. It’s also a day to demand that consumers’ rights be recognised and safeguarded.
You are a consumer if you buy goods and services for personal use. As a consumer, there’s a strong chance you’ve had a negative encounter. Perhaps you purchased a new product that broke within a few months after purchase. Or perhaps you hired someone to provide a service but they fell short of your expectations.
Negative customer encounters are avoided by most businesses since they reflect adversely on their brand. They are well aware that as a result, they would lose clients. In most nations, there are laws in place to protect consumers’ rights. Therefore, a special day is recognised to promote and save the consumer’s right that is celebrated as World Consumer Rights Day.
History of World Consumer Rights Day 2022
The day’s idea came from US President John F Kennedy, who gave a special statement to the US Congress on March 15, 1962, in which he addressed the problem of consumer rights.
This is an annual event that brings the international consumer movement together in celebration and solidarity. On this day, people all across the world support consumer rights, asking that those rights be recognised and preserved, and denouncing market abuses and social injustices that jeopardise those rights.
