EducationHow to nail your internship?

Date:

An internship is one of the best ways to build your career further. Whether you are a college student or a graduate who is unemployed and figuring out which industry to enter, an internship is always that experience where you can understand how to progress in your career. An internship helps to build practical skills and also helps you to become employed at a company that may be full-time. Here are some amazing tips to get the most out of your internship.

Jindal Internship Fair offers internship opportunities with 200 organisations

1) Interact with your co-workers:

You learn a lot of new skills not just on the job through your training manager but also from your co-workers. Your co-workers may be experienced employees of the organization who can share with you what is right and wrong and how to conduct well while you perform your duties. They can also help you understand your career goals as and when you share and interact with them your understanding of the job that you do.

2) Set your work goals:

Many times your hiring manager may have already set a lot of expectations for you to deliver at the workplace. But you may or may not fit in the expectations bracket and it is essential that you set your own work-related objectives and goals that suit your limitations and strengths. You can simply start a work plan that can help you understand how far you are putting your efforts in a particular period of time. This will also enhance your managerial skills to look at your work from a non-critical viewpoint.

3) Learn and learn with whole willingness:

Your co-workers or managers may not have the top qualifications in their resumes but they may have immense experience and skills that you cannot find in the books or videos on YouTube. You can simply learn by watching them and knowing how their approaches are towards work, towards the company, and even towards their personal life.

4) Know to manage your time wisely:

You cannot just sit and work for 12 hours a day to complete the work of your internship even if it is that demanding. You can simply chalk out a plan that has time goals to achieve your work targets. Keep yourself busy throughout the work timings but do not work overtime as it only shows your poor management skills.

5) Learn to be professional:

If you have no idea of what is professionalism, learn it from your co-workers and managers. You can simply reflect on their experience and the know-how they manage when things go out of their hand. You can also take a sneak peek at how they keep a tab on their work projects without losing hope when they face challenges. You can also understand to set boundaries between work and personal lives.

6) Get recommendations at the end of your job tenure:

You may find it silly to ask for recommendations or feedback because you may be confident that you know it all and learned it all. But taking feedback from your seniors will help you develop your skills and also evolve as a professional. Just check with your employer if he is willing to give you a recommendation letter based on your work experience and achievements. If not, you can simply ask them to share their views as recommendations on your LinkedIn profile.
