I want to tell you a story. I know two freelancers who are really sincere, hardworking, committed, and passionate about their professions. Their names are Sheetal and Payal. Please don’t Google about them as I have changed their names for their private purposes. However, I have the permission to tell you how they started their freelancing career and flourished in their businesses over a period of time.

Why freelancing has become the trending work sector in 2022

Sheetal used to write content for websites and her starting rate per word was 10 paise. She used to get enough work and I can say that due to her low rate, she used to work for 12 to 14 hours per day for 6 days a week to make a good living. However, she was dissatisfied with her job because she felt she was charging too less for amazing content that is error-free, grammatically correct, and unique in every sense. Like no copy-paste at all but the payments that came to her was too less for her to plan for a better future.

Are you on a Career Break? Lose no hope as your time will also come

On the other hand, Payal who graduated from the same college as Sheetal started her freelancing career in quite a rocking way. She charged her clients 50 paise per word and eventually increased her pay to 3 to 5 rupees per word. Today Payal has her own setup and a couple of interns working under her. We can say that Payal registered her business with the utmost confidence that she can give employment as a businesswoman to others and even expand her business portfolio to writing in other domains.

So, from the above case story, do you think Payal was over-talented or over-qualified than Sheetal? Well, the reality is that Sheetal was more qualified and had a better writing speed than Payal. However, she lacked the capability to get new clients due to low confidence levels and recognition of her own work and worth. Sheetal was more shy and introverted which made clients take advantage of her nature to give her more work for a less salary. Whereas, Payal kept herself updated with the market trends and kept increasing her writing rates as per the work demand.

Eventually, Payal flourished better compared to Sheetal in her freelancing career. The qualities that set Payal ahead of Sheetal are that Payal aimed for higher value always. She convinced the clients that her work gave a value that other writers cannot. She even demonstrated how her clients always appreciated her work and got improved businesses through their recommendations.

If you want to live like Payal and achieve success as a freelancer, you need to be confident about what you know and ambitious about how much you can earn in your life. If you think courage can take you to new heights then yes. You need to make the call to your client that you deserve more pay as a freelancer because you deliver value to their business in every unique way. If that gets proved, you are halfway there. You can fix your working hours less because you quote more pay that helps you to have a better quality of life.
