However, when you get the update from your HR manager that based on your performance and the economic conditions, your salary would increase only by 10%, and you are heartbroken. The reasons are endless for your HR manager to not give you the needed salary or increment. However, your needs are more demanding as time is passing by. After all, as a common man, even you have responsibilities towards your family, towards your passions, and the growing inflation rate that is making you sick when it comes to paying your monthly bills.

1) Be confident about your past performances:

Remember that you cannot be a non-performer throughout the year and one day gets up from your office chair and tell your boss you deserve more. Jokes apart, if you have been genuinely working hard then you should go ahead and set up a meeting with your main boss. You need to show you have been performing really well and getting the company the needed turnover through your sheer hard and smart work. No accusations and no politics. Keep it straight and talk transparently to your boss about what role you played in getting the targets achieved on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis.

2) Show him what you can do for the company’s future:

You cannot fix a rate just like that and keep your demands in front of your boss without telling him what is in it for him and the company. You can give him examples, projections, and predictions of how your idea will bring a lot of fame, reputation, growth, and the needed revenue or profits to the company. Once you have given this kind of presentation that helps your boss get the confidence about you and the company’s future, then think that you have cracked the problem.

3) Be open about your career plans:

If you have been an eyeing a top position in your company, then tell your boss that you aim to reach there with your hard work and smart ideas. If you are planning to get into a business in the long run or have some academic ambitions to be fulfilled, then be clear about it as well. You need to portray yourself as bigger than your job role and once your boss gets to know who he is talking to, he will surely understand your worth and won’t mind signing for the increment or higher salary package that you think you need.

4) Do not give up if things don’t go your way:

If your boss has been a really depressed soul and panicked due to the current economic conditions, whatever you say will all go to the deaf ears. Instead, you can convey the message to your boss that you won’t mind exploring career options in another firm if you don’t get the hike in your salary because, for you, your time and energy are as precious as the salary.
