New Delhi: BJP is going to hold the power of Assam for the second consecutive time. The ruling BJP-led NDA led in 77 seats out of 126 assembly seats. BJP is leading in 58 seats while its allies Assam Gana Parishad is leading in 11 and United Peoples Party-Liberal 8 seats. Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and senior minister Himanta Biswa Sarma have won the elections in a big way. Sonowal defeated Congress candidate Rajib Lochan Pegu in Majuli seat by a margin of 43 thousand 192 votes. Sarma won the assembly election by a margin of over one lakh votes. He retained the Jalukbari seat by defeating Romain Chandra Borthakur of Congress by 1,01,911 votes.
